Get to Know Merrick Matteazzi

Merrick Matteazzi is a devoted husband and father of three who has deep roots in the Abbotsford and Mission communities. Growing up in Abbotsford, Merrick has built meaningful connections through school, sports, and business over the decades. He is eager for his children to experience the same vibrant community that has shaped his life.

As the son of an Italian immigrant and one of five children, Merrick faced financial hardships throughout his childhood. At just seven years old, he took on his first paper route with his siblings, and by 15, he was delivering newspapers for six routes in his area. These early experiences instilled a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the opportunities available in British Columbia.

Merrick attended Ten-Broeck Elementary, where a field trip to Victoria and a tour of the Legislative buildings ignited his passion for governance. Meeting with the Premier and Members of the Legislative Assembly at the time and learning about their work ignited a passion for public service that grew over the years. Merrick graduated from W.J. Mouat in 2005, cherishing his public school education and the teachers who inspired his commitment to self-development and continuous growth.

After graduation, Merrick honed his business acumen, interpersonal, negotiation, and sales skills, winning numerous awards in the RV industry. Following his passion for growth, he entered the real estate industry, attended UBC Sauder School of Business, and began his career as a member of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board. In his first year, he won ‘Rookie of the Year’ as the top new agent at Landmark Realty. Within two years, he became a Medallion Realtor, ranking in the top 10% for transactional volume, and has maintained this status for six consecutive years.

In 2013, Merrick married the love of his life, Sydney, and they have since grown their family to include Matteo, Elizabeth, and Milo, along with their lively Golden Retriever, Jack. Having three young children under the age of 10 motivated Merrick to consider a move into politics. He is determined to leave his children with a province that offers more opportunities and growth than are available now.

Merrick has established himself as a person of integrity in business. Anyone who knows him will attest to his impeccable reputation. He consistently puts the needs of his clients before his own, and he aims to do the same for his constituents. Merrick’s dedication and effective effort will bring proper representation and results to the Legislative Assembly for the Abbotsford-Mission riding.

“We used to be the best province in Canada to live in, and now professionals are leaving in droves due to mismanagement and failed policies from David Eby’s NDP. I cannot stand by and watch the promise of beautiful British Columbia erode. The B.C. that I want my children to grow up in is worth fighting for, and I am excited to get to work in creating the bold change our community deserves.”
—Merrick Matteazzi, BC United Candidate for Abbotsford-Mission

“Merrick Matteazzi embodies the values and dedication needed to bring about positive change in Abbotsford-Mission. His commitment to his community and his passion to fix the crises in health care, cost-of-living and public safety that have been ignored by the NDP make him an excellent candidate. We are thrilled to have him on our team and confident in his ability to represent the best interests of his constituents.”
—Kevin Falcon, Leader of BC United
