Get to Know Herb Haldane

Herb Haldane, born and raised in Sooke, is a dedicated community leader with over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. With a rich cultural heritage, Herb’s father hails from the Metlakatla First Nation, and his mother is of Irish-French descent, instilling in him a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives and a strong commitment to community values. 

Herb’s career in local government began with his election to the Sooke District Council in 2008, followed by a re-election in 2011. During his tenure, he gained a profound understanding of the Local Government Act, the Community Charter, bylaws, official community plans, and zoning and development permits. His experience has equipped him with the insight needed to navigate complex governmental processes and advocate effectively for his constituents. 

Herb is actively involved in various community organizations, including the Sooke Home Builders Association and the Sooke Community Association, and is a dedicated volunteer with the Sooke Legion. His leadership roles and volunteer work reflect his unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life for Sooke residents. 

Now, Herb is seeking election as an MLA with BC United for the Juan de Fuca-Malahat riding. He aims to bring his extensive experience, proven leadership, and deep community ties to a broader platform. Herb’s focus is on fostering sustainable development, enhancing local infrastructure, and ensuring that the voices of his constituents are heard and represented. 

With his extensive background in both the construction industry and local government, along with his dedication to community service, Herb is a candidate who truly understands the needs and aspirations of the people he seeks to represent.
