Dr. Claudine Storness-Bliss is a respected physician with deep roots in Surrey and a proven track record for health care advocacy.

An obstetrician and gynecologist at Surrey Memorial Hospital, Dr. Storness-Bliss has a special expertise in endometriosis, pelvic pain and complex laparoscopic surgery. She is a clinical associate professor at the UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the former co-local department head at Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Storness-Bliss is also the creator of the inter-disciplinary chronic pelvic pain clinic at the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgical Centre and co-director of the UBC Fraser Health Advance Training program in Minimally Invasive Pelvic Surgery and Complex Gynecological Conditions.

In recent years, Dr. Storness-Bliss has been raising the alarm about overcrowding, understaffing and unacceptable risks to patients at Surrey Memorial Hospital. She has been a fierce champion for change as B.C.’s ongoing health care crisis worsens. Dr. Storness-Bliss was driven to run for office having witnessed first-hand the tragic consequences of the health care crisis in B.C. and recognizing the pressing need to overhaul the system.

Dr. Storness-Bliss completed medical school at the University of Calgary and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of British Columbia. For the past 22 years, she has called Surrey home where she lives with her three children, Alexander, Amelie and Cole. During her spare time, Claudine enjoys salsa dancing, riding her motor-cycle, yoga and cooking.

“I became a physician because I wanted to make life better for people. But increasingly, life for many is getting worse. As an OB-GYN at Surrey Memorial Hospital, I’ve seen first-hand the tragic consequences of the chronic, unaddressed challenges in our health-care system – but I refuse to accept this as the new normal. I’m running as the BC United candidate for Surrey-Cloverdale to say ‘no’ to this new normal and to fix the health care crisis and the many other challenges facing our province.”

Dr. Claudine Storness-Bliss

“Dr. Storness-Bliss is a respected member of the medical community and a champion for health care at Surrey Memorial Hospital and around the province. I am delighted to have Dr. Storness-Bliss on the BC United team. B.C.’s health-care system is in total chaos, with tragic outcomes and health care horror stories happening every single day. Dr. Storness-Bliss has been a fearless advocate for change, and I’m appreciative that she is willing to dedicate her formidable skills to helping improve our health care delivery as a BC United MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale.”
