Get to Know Doug Clovechok

Doug Clovechok was elected as MLA for Columbia River-Revelstoke in 2017, and again in 2020. Clovechok is currently the Official Opposition Whip and Shadow Minister for Columbia Basin Initiatives.

Since being elected, Clovechok has previously served as the Official Opposition Caucus Whip, and fulfilled the roles of Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier’s Office (2017), Co-Shadow Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture (2017-2020), and for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (2020-Present). He has served as Deputy Chair and Member of the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services (2018-Present), Deputy Chair of the Special Committee to Appoint a Chief Electoral Officer (2017-2018), and Member of the Select Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs (2017-Present). 

Prior to his election, Clovechok enjoyed an extensive career in education. He taught high school with the Calgary Board of Education and recently worked as the campus manager of the Invermere and Kimberley branches of the College of the Rockies. 

For 20 years, Clovechok combined interests in business and education as CEO of the Calgary Education Partnership Foundation. During this time, he created many award-winning partnerships between the private and public sectors to improve the public system. His work has been recognized by the Conference Board of Canada and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. 

Clovechok has also worked extensively in tourism, managing operations for Princess Tours in the Calgary area for nearly twenty years. 

Clovechok holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Gonzaga University Graduate School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and Teaching from the University of Calgary. 

Clovechok is an adopted member of the Weasletraveller family and an honourary chief of the Piikani First Nation of the Blackfoot Confederacy. He and his wife Susan live at Dutch Creek.
