Renowned Surrey Memorial physician, Dr. Claudine Storness-Bliss, to run for BC United

February 6, 2024

SURREY, B.C. – Today, BC United Leader Kevin Falcon is thrilled to announce that renowned physician, Dr. Claudine Storness-Bliss, will be the BC United candidate for Surrey-Cloverdale in the next election.

“Dr. Storness-Bliss is a respected member of the medical community and a champion for health care at Surrey Memorial Hospital and around the province,” said Kevin Falcon, Leader of BC United. “I am delighted to have Dr. Storness-Bliss on the BC United team.”

“B.C.’s health-care system is in total chaos, with tragic outcomes and health care horror stories happening every single day,” Falcon added. “Dr. Storness-Bliss has been a fearless advocate for change, and I’m appreciative that she is willing to dedicate her formidable skills to helping improve our health care delivery as a BC United MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale.”

Dr. Storness-Bliss is an obstetrician and gynecologist with a special expertise in endometriosis, pelvic pain and complex laparoscopic surgery. She is a clinical associate professor at the UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Gynecologic Specialties. She is the former local department head at Surrey Memorial Hospital. Dr. Storness-Bliss is also the creator of the inter-disciplinary chronic pelvic pain clinic at the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgical Centre and co-director of the UBC Fraser Health Advance Training program in Minimally Invasive Pelvic Surgery and Complex Gynecological Conditions.

As conditions at Surrey Memorial Hospital continue to deteriorate, with overcrowding, understaffing and unacceptable risks to patients, Dr. Storness-Bliss has been raising the alarm about the ongoing health care crisis in our province.

“I became a physician because I wanted to make life better for people,” said Dr. Storness-Bliss. “But increasingly, life for many is getting worse. As an OB-GYN at Surrey Memorial Hospital, I’ve seen first-hand the tragic consequences of the chronic, unaddressed challenges in our health-care system – but I refuse to accept this as the new normal. I’m running as the BC United candidate for Surrey-Cloverdale to say ‘no’ to this new normal and to fix the health care crisis and the many other challenges facing our province.”

Under Kevin Falcon’s leadership, BC United continues to build a strong, election-ready team with excellent candidates being nominated in every corner of the province.
