Karin Kirkpatrick announces decision not to seek re-election as MLA for West Vancouver–Capilano

February 8, 2024

VANCOUVER, B.C. – After four years of dedicated service as the MLA for West Vancouver–Capilano, Karin Kirkpatrick has made the difficult decision to not seek re-election in the 2024 general provincial election and retire from provincial politics.

“Serving as the MLA for West Vancouver–Capilano has truly been an honour. These past four years have been exciting, but not without their challenges; including a breast cancer diagnosis in 2021. Although I am optimistic my health concerns are behind me, I have made the decision to put my health and family first,” stated Karin Kirkpatrick. “I know Kevin Falcon and BC United are the only team with the expertise, experience, and track record to defeat David Eby and the NDP.”

Throughout her time in office, Kirkpatrick has been a strong advocate for West Vancouver–Capilano, a champion of BC United values and has made invaluable contributions to the team including in the role as the Shadow Minister for Housing, Childcare, Autism & Accessibility, Gender Equity & Inclusion.

Kevin Falcon, Leader of BC United, expressed his gratitude for Kirkpatrick’s dedicated service, stating, “I spoke with Karin and she shared the challenging health journey she’s travelled and I agree this is the right thing for her and her family. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for the exceptional service Karin has provided to West Vancouver–Capilano, and to all of British Columbia. Her passionate desire for change will be deeply missed.”

BC United continues to build a team of new and experienced candidates in preparation for the next provincial election, scheduled for October 2024.
