BC United criticizes NDP for lack of consultation on provincial park expansion

June 21, 2024

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – BC United MLA Mike Bernier released the following statement today in response to the NDP’s failure to consult on the expansion of Klinse-za/Twin Sisters Park:

“Despite promises of thorough consultation and socioeconomic impact studies before making such significant changes, David Eby’s NDP, the most secretive government in Canada, has once again pushed through a decision that impacts the future of our region without proper consultation. The creation of this new park has raised serious concerns about its impact on local industries and outdoor recreational opportunities.

“David Eby and the NDP need to understand that meeting with a small, handpicked group of individuals does not constitute responsible or adequate consultation. Our communities deserve so much better. They deserve to have their concerns known and addressed before any major decisions are made.

“We cannot accept a situation where critical decisions are made behind closed doors, leaving our communities in the dark.

“I am calling on the NDP government to pause this park expansion decision until full public consultation can take place and all socioeconomic impacts have been thoroughly assessed. This NDP government cannot keep ignoring rural British Columbians. We cannot afford to lose more industries, small businesses, and opportunities because of secretive and hasty decisions made by the NDP in Victoria.”
